D@tastorm is toxic and Yusaku deserves better
Episode 42: スターダストロードの導き – Sutādasuto Rōdo no Michibiki
(The Stardust Road’s Guidance)
Playmaker manages to withstand the brutal attack of Revolver’s Link Monster. Sensing the presence of monsters in the Tower of Hanoi, he flies right into it. Playmaker then bets it all on a draw, but…

Episode 43: イグニスの誕生 – Igunisu no Tanjō
(The Birth of Ignis)
Playmaker has realized who Revolver might be during the Duel. However, due to a shockwave generated in the Data Storm, Yusaku is forced to log out. He now heads to a certain location in the real world, where Revolver is supposed to be…
I’m actually pretty glad that the Rev vs. Playmaker rematch is only going to be two eps long, I’m not a fan of long duels and we haven’t had a plot episode in a while (recaps! do not count!!). I’m also thinking this duel may end as a no result. The last line of 42′s summery implies that the draw he “bets it all on” may not pan out for him well enough to win, and episode 43′s summery says that shockwave “forces” him to log out. There isn’t any word on either but duel is still going to end but the duel is set to end anyway, so it sort of looks like neither of them are going to win.
I hesitate to say that definitively though, since we have no word on the Tower. If I’m right about the duel ends in a no result, then the Tower should still be up and ready to detonate in 1-2 hours. And yet, Yusaku’s gonna go meet Revolver in the real world. Maybe Revolver promises to deactivate the Tower if Yusaku meets him? But that prob wouldn’t fly well with Kogami, so I really don’t see how this plays out. It’s also possible that Playmaker wins this duel but goes to meet Revolver anyway because he realizes he’s his Special Person. But again, no mention of Kogami or the Tower… so I really can’t picture how this is going to play out. Super interested to see where this goes!
BUT! NOT AS INTERESTED AS I AM IN YUSAKU AND IRL!REVOLVER’S MEETING. “Playmaker has realized who Revolver might be during their duel” lol “might” my ass. Revolver is Yusaku’s Special Person. He’s been the most likely candidate for a while, so I doubt anyone is surprised, but it’ll be nice to have it confirmed.
I’m interested in seeing how Playmaker is going to react to this. Yusaku still doesn’t know that Kogami’s (sort of) alive so he’s been pinning all the blame over The Lost Incident on Revolver… so really, he’s going to have to contend with having the person he’s been fighting and the person he’s been searching for be on in the same. Yusaku’s Special Person has been a beacon of hope for him for the past ten years; so either he forgives Revolver immediately because of the role he played in his past (which presents it’s own dangers, namely to Ai), or he doesn’t and forever loses the ideal that his Special Person represented.
But Yusaku’s poised to get hurt no matter what. Even if we somehow get no confirmation that Revolver=YSP, episode 43′s title is pretty ominous. We’ve been speculating that the ignises were created out of The Lost Incident since last May, so it’s sort of easy to forget that Yusaku still doesn’t know this. He has no idea that he’s been carrying around the result of his torture since episode 1.
We know that Yusaku does care about Ai (episode 10 proved that), but that was an extreme situation. Yusaku barely emotes, but nothing’s really happened to sour their relationship since then; he’s got to care just as much if not more now at episode 40.
So how is he going to handle the knowledge that Ai is a direct result of his suffering? Unless the ignises are supernatural in nature they didn’t ask to be made. No matter Ai’s motives now, he isn’t at fault for The Lost Incident. So is Yusaku going to revert back to threatening to delete Ai? Is he going to actually try to? Is this going to destroy their relationship? Or (whether it be immediate or with time) will ever-rational Yusaku realize that Ai really can’t be blamed for this?
@pendulumprince and @authoratmidnight made me realize one thing. we might even get Revolver’s face reveal. I got distracted by everything else lol. “onii-san” might finally happen \^o^/
I’m also interested in how Ai’s plan of Being The Evil EvilTM is going to unfold if your theory gets proven. are these point connected? are they stand-alone-plot points? if so, it would be another hard blow for Yusaku(‘s caring and trust)
